Our Fellows are doing great things, and the FSLI Staff and NASULGC Commission wish to congratulate several Fellows who have received promotions, awards, and other forms of recognition for their excellent leadership:
- Dr. George Cooper was appointed President of South Carolina State University. Dr. Cooper, who was serving as Deputy Administrator for Science and Education Resources Development at the USDA, was selected from a field of more than 40 applicants.
- Dr. Tim Cross has been named Dean of University of Tennessee (UT) Extension, the outreach unit of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, with programs in agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, youth development, and resource development.
- Dr. Melissa Mixon will assume the role of interim vice president of Mississippi State University's Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine. Pending additional board approval, she also will serve as interim director of both the university's Division of Extension and Outreach and Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, as well as interim dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Dr. Frieda Eivazi has taken on the role of Associate Research Director for the Cooperative Research Unit at Lincoln University.
- Robert Miller has been named Divisional Vice President for Research and Development for Abbott Nutrition, the highest R&D position at Abbott Nutrition.
- Dr. Khalid Abdelrahim was named Group Manager for Process Safety at Campbell Soup Company. Dr. Abdelrahim led a team of Campbell scientists who obtained the first -- and currently only -- U.S. Food and Drug Administration acceptance of a commercial low-acid aseptic particulate-containing process filing. This achievement led to the development and introduction of the Select Gold Label line.
- Dr. Pete Jacoby, associate dean for outreach in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and agriculture program director for WSU Extension, is one of the newest members of the Washington State Conservation Commission. The Washington State Conservation Commission assists and guides conservation districts as they work with local communities to conserve renewable natural resources.
- Dr. Rory Fraser was elected President of the Faculty Senate where he serves as a voice for the faculty in university affairs at Alabama A&M University.
- Dr. Linda Martin was appointed Associate Dean and Director of Academic Affairs at The Ohio State University.
- Dr. Doug Lantagne was appointed Dean for Extension at the University of Vermont (UVM). Dr. Lantagne's appointment is of historical significance as it represents an organizational change at UVM. Elevating Extension leadership to a Dean-level position recognizes Extension as a University-level asset that can be leveraged more broadly to benefit the State of Vermont.
- Dr. Shane Burgess was named Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Economic Development, College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University. He continues as Director of the Mississippi State University Life Sciences and Biotechnology Institute and also remains Co-Director of MSU's Institute for Digital Biology
- Dr. Dyremple Marsh was appointed Dean of the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences at Delaware State University after serving as the Interim Dean and as Associate Dean and Director of Extension.
- Dr. Michael Morrissey was named Superintendent of the Food Innovation Center in Portland, Oregon. The FIC is a partnership between Oregon State University and the Oregon Department of Agriculture that exemplifies the application of university knowledge and skill to real-world food industry challenges. This is a move "inland" for Dr. Morrissey, who previously served as director of Oregon State's Seafood Research Lab.
- Dr. Bill Boggess was appointed Executive Associate Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University after previously serving as an Associate Dean, Professor, Head of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and President of the Faculty Senate at Oregon State. Dr. Boggess has taken on this new role after the retirement of the previous Executive Associate Dean, Dr. Roy Arnold, a member of the Design Team responsible for developing the FSLI.
- Dr. Keith Smith, Associate Vice President/Associate Dean of The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, was appointed to the George R. and Genevieve B. Gist Endowed Chair. In this capacity he is collaborating and providing leadership on mentoring faculty, designing and conducting research and scholarship, creating graduate and in-service programs for university extension which attracts participants from across the nation and developing seminal literature that will influence Extension Education practice throughout the country.
- Dr. Michael Ouart was selected Vice Provost for University of Missouri Extension and Director of Cooperative Extension. Throughout his career Dr. Ouart has made great contributions to university extension, serving as Associate Vice Provost for Extension at Iowa State University prior to joining University of Missouri.
- Dr. Joseph DiPietro was named Vice President for Agriculture for the University of Tennessee. Prior to becoming Vice President, Dr. DiPietro served for 9 years as the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida.
- Dr. Fred Schlutt was selected as Vice Provost for Extension and Outreach/Director of Cooperative Extension at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. Fred was the Executive Director of Cooperative Extension, University of Maine.
- Parker Hall was promoted to Director of the Sauce and Beverage North America Soup, Sauce, and Beverage (NASSB) group from the Campbell Soup Company. He previously held the postition of Group Manager for Ready-to-Serve Soup Product Development for Campbell Soup Company.
- Dr. Susan Sumner was appointed Interim Associate Dean and Director for Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Virginia Tech University. She was the Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Dr. Craig Beyrouty was named the Dean of Colorado Sate University's College of Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Beyrouty came from Purdue University where he headed the Department of Agronomy since 2001.
- Linda Snetselaar was appointed Interim DEO of Community and Behavioral Health Departments of Community and Behavioral Health and Epidemiology, College of Public Health, University of Iowa.
- Pradip Mukerji was promoted to Center Director, Pacific-Asia R & D for Abbott Nutrition. He previously held the position as Head of Strategic Expansion & Consumer Products R & D, Adult Nutrition R & D, Abbott Laboratories.
